Mortgage rates have been going down for three weeks in a row, which is good news for potential homebuyers. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is now at 7.44%, lower than its recent high of almost 8%. Experts predict that rates may drop even further to between 6% and 7% by spring. If you're thinking of buying a home, now might be a good time to do it before the market changes. The combination of a strong economy, low inflation, and lower mortgage rates is expected to attract more buyers to the real estate market. Currently, the national averages are 7.44% for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages and 6.76% for 15-year fixed-rate mortgages.
In a demonstration demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, at least 50 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested for blocking the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge. The protesters, who disrupted all lanes of westbound I-80, called for an end to the conflict that began on October 7. Some chained themselves together, while others lay on the ground with sheets reading 'stop the genocide.' The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, attended by President Joe Biden, faced disruption as the group voiced their concerns. Highway patrol officials reported 50 arrests and the removal of at least 15 cars from the bridge. President Biden's presence during the APEC summit drew attention, with protesters emphasizing the need for a ceasefire amid ongoing hostilities.
In response to a potentially life-threatening engine-related issue, Honda is recalling almost 250,000 vehicles, including Odyssey, Pilot, and Acura models, due to a potentially deadly engine issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cites a manufacturing error in the connecting rod bearing, which may lead to engine damage, posing a risk of fire, injury, or crashes. The affected models range from 2015-2020 and include Acura TLX, Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, Honda Ridgeline, and Honda Odyssey.
Owners can check recalls using USA TODAY or NHTSA databases. Dealers will inspect, repair, or replace engines at no cost. Notification letters will be mailed by Jan. 2, 2024. For more information, call Honda at 1-888-234-2138, citing recall numbers XG1 and GG0.

Do you ever feel really tired? The CDC says that a lot of adults in the U.S. might not be getting enough sleep, which can lead to a problem called sleep apnea. About 30 million Americans have this problem, but only 6 million know about it. Dr. Melissa Lipford, a sleep expert from Mayo Clinic, says that the main kind of sleep apnea is called obstructive sleep apnea. It's like a little bad guy that relaxes your throat muscles and makes you wake up briefly. How can you tell if you have it? Look out for loud snoring, gasping for air, and feeling tired during the day. But don't worry, there are ways to fight it, like using special devices or making changes to your lifestyle. Dr. Lipford says you should talk to your doctor if you think you might have sleep apnea.

UK medical regulators have given approval for a new gene therapy called Casgevy to treat sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia. This is the first time a treatment using a tool called Crispr has been licensed. Patients with these diseases have problems with their blood cells and need lifelong treatment. Casgevy involves making changes to certain cells in the body and has been successful in tests. The treatment could replace the need for difficult bone marrow transplants. However, there are concerns about the cost, which is estimated to be over £1 million. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence will decide if it is worth the money. The company that made Casgevy, Vertex, will have to decide on a price that is fair for everyone. This is an important step in gene therapy, but there is still work to be done to make it available to everyone who needs it.
